Sound Testing

Sound Testing

The importance of Sound Testing

A good degree of internal sound insulation means that disruption to the occupants of a space is minimised, while privacy between rooms or dwellings is increased.

Internal sound insulation is an important consideration for various development types, ranging from a residential development that needs to comply with Part E of Building Regulations, to control rooms within factories.

In the case of residential properties, whether new-build or conversion, these are required to comply with Approved Document E of the Building Regulations 2003, entitled ‘resistance to the passage of sound’. This is now a key consideration for house builders, as good internal acoustic conditions form an important aspect of the end user’s experience.

Our service

We are fully equipped to undertake sound insulation testing for any project from residential schemes to industrial plant rooms. We use modern Class 1 sound level meters, annually calibrated equipment and a skilled team tester.

All our qualified sound testers are as a minimum, technical members of the Institute of Acoustics. As part of our Continued Professional Development testers are regularly assessed by senior members; kept up to date with new guidance and practices; attend seminars; encouraged to research new equipment; and witnessed on site regularly by ourselves or the ANC.

We are fully equipped to carry out post-construction sound insulation tests for Building Regulations.
