Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)
The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory Energy Assessment for organisations in the UK. If you are looking to see if your company qualifies, you will need to assess a minimum 90% of your entire Energy Consumption covering a twelve-month period which needs to be repeated every four years.
Following on with the four- yearly submission deadlines from December 2015 – 2019, the next ESOS compliance needs to be submitted on or before the 5th December 2023.
Your company qualifies for the ESOS if it has more than two hundred and fifty employees or has an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euro (£44,845,000), and an annual balance sheet total in excess of 43 million euro (£38,566,700). This also applies if your company forms part of a larger organisation which falls into the above.
If your organisation qualifies you will need to audit the Energy consumption used by your buildings, industrial processes, and your transportation. Subsequently cost-effective measures for energy savings need to be identified.
Following this, you will need to submit a compliance report to the associated body. Depending on your registered office location these are as follows:
- Environment Agency for England
- Natural Resources Wales for Wales
- Scottish Environmental Protection Agency for Scotland
- Northern Ireland Environment Agency for Northern Ireland
- Secretary of State for Business should their main work be offshore.
There are also several routes to show compliance with the ESOS Regulations. Our in-house ESOS Lead Assessor can consider other audits for you with capabilities which include:
- ESOS Energy Audits
- ISO 50001 Certification
- Display Energy Certificates
Other work which benefits the ESOS Assessment include works which have been already undertaken for the Carbon Trust Standard, Logistics Carbon Reduction Schemes and Green Fleet Reviews.
Should you have conducted in a previous year, a Streamlined Energy and Carbon Report (SECR) (link to SECR) – this will become very useful. We can assist and advise you on all areas of the ESOS and the processes involved from start to finish.
