Simplified Building Energy Modelling (SBEM) is the government approved methodology for calculating the energy efficiency of commercial and non-domestic buildings in the UK. Based on a 12 month period of normal use, it provides an accurate overview of the amount of energy consumed by a building and the carbon emissions produced month to month, allowing conclusions to be drawn about the construction’s energy efficiency.
SBEM calculations allow you to do two things:
They can be particularly important at the design stage of a project before the commencement of the build to ensure the projected design will achieve Part L compliance early on, and during the project to verify its progress. By booking an SBEM assessment with our expert team, you can ensure that whatever stage your project is at, you will achieve total compliance, and identify measures to reduce the building’s carbon footprint. SBEM calculations are also required for extensions or conversions to commercial properties, and we can advise on where these are needed.
To achieve the highest levels of Part L compliance, we recommend taking the following crucial actions:
If you’d like to book a SBEM assessment with Cook Brown Energy, don’t hesitate to contact our expert team. We provide a fully supportive consultancy service for design stage and as built SBEM calculations. We can also carry out elemental (walls and floors) U-Value calculations, and provide Landmark Registration and Energy Performance Certificates.
