Award-winning Architect, Taus Larsen of TL Architecture who specialises in designing low‐energy housing, appointed us to provide Energy Consultancy services, and Cook Brown Building Control to provide Building Control services, for the successful build of three environmentally sustainable homes at Philips Street, Bristol.

The build adds 3 new ultra-low energy homes to Somewhere Housing Co-ops portfolio of homes in the South of Bristol, providing affordable homes to local people. The homes, built by Earthwise Construction, share a 10kW roof integrated PV system, and a lack of gas grid connection, along with MVHR heat recovery ventilation, solar assisted Heat Pump Technology, efficient appliances and low embodied energy construction – making them effectively zero carbon homes.

The timber frame homes, which the residents helped to design and build, have been built to house some of the Co-Op’s older existing members with rent, which is affordable, helps to free up other homes for younger families. The residents share a communal bike store, laundry room, visitor’s bedroom, and heating/ventilation system.

“We were extremely delighted to have worked on this project, so much so that due to the specifications and sustainability of the development, we crowned Taus Larsen the winner at one of our quarterly awards presentations.”
